The term whole paycheck became very prevalent in the 6 years that I worked for that company. Great place to work for however, the people there is what makes it difficult to work there because of how easy it can be to lose your job there as soon as you try to move up the corporate ladder. Politics becomes a survival tool.

There is no magic. To cut the price, you must do one, two or all of the three: to screw the government (like cheating on taxes or transferring your social obligations to the "state"), to screw your suppliers, or/and to screw your employees. The more you screw, the more you cut the costs.

"They have all this money ... they should contribute more," Joe says sarcastically. Yes, Joe - they SHOULD contribute more. Those people did not create that money in a vacuum, sir. Were it not for the people IN the country, they would have made nothing. Were it not for the workers working FOR the company, they would have made nothing. They absolutely should contribute more once their CEO is filthy rich from that very thing. Of course. It's called giving back to that which allowed you success.

I listened to the entire episode and it was difficult listening to Joe argue with John the way he did. Joe was incredibly closed minded and I don’t know how many times John had to explain that Whole Foods does mean eliminating sugar and oils and things that are toxic to a body. Any time anyone talks about a vegan diet, Joe is always on the attack. He came off as a bully. Very distasteful.

So the owner of Whole Foods says "there is no fiber in pasta"..... really? Look it up for yourself Mr. Mackey: Pasta is primarily a carbohydrate, but it also contains a good amount of fibre and some protein. Wholemeal pasta contains almost twice as much fibre as white pasta, with just one 100g serving providing about a third of the total recommended daily allowance of fibre for adults.

I'd say Elon Musk is far more intellectual than an entrepreneur, at least in the traditional way of not needing to be smart if you work hard and know how to organize people. He is that, but his focus is not necessarily on profit. He does keep a budget, but the focus is on what service and value he can provide to as many as he can so the system as a whole, our community, can function more efficiently. The more service you can supply with a quantum leap to a better service at a cheaper price? He is not "selling" anyone. He doesn't Do sales. He doesn't advertise. He's not a pusher. He simply engineers freely, all day, every day, just doing what he loves and loves to hate at times. This is capitalism at its best.

It bothers me that both Joe and Mackey are happy to pull stuff out of where the sun don't shine. Rogan is always willing to have an opinion even if he knows next to nothing about something. He seems to be super careful about everyone being tested for Covid but he wants the rest of us to wing it and cram the hospitals and the morgue. Mackey points to Sweden as an example and ignores that they have had a higher death rate and equal or worse economic fallout than their more cautious neighbor countries. These guys don't let facts get in their way.

And so when he's talking about corporations paying their fair share (around 5 mins in) that any increase will stifle the economy. It's the same excuse that's been used for decades, the trickle down effect. When trump enacted his tax plan, there were projections on how much income it was going to generate for the federal gov. It hasn't come anywhere close to what was projected (before the pandemic.) Meanwhile the country's debt has exploded. The vast majority of the wealth was transferred to the 1% while the right whines about socialism. Joe often times makes good points, but I wish he'd get right on this.

@James Appel I think the biggest issue is that the wealthy are able to avoid paying taxes. Perhaps it’s overused, but Donald Trump payed $750 in taxes. And got a $173 million return. I pay more taxes than a billionaire by a few thousand dollars and I’m technically impoverished. That’s not fair. And a lot of wealthy people are able to do that. The poor are fronting the bill in this country, and the rich avoid paying their fair share. They benefit from the systems in place even more so than the rest of us and generally are the only ones who have the money to access those systems. Should a billionaire pay a higher percentage in taxes? No. That’s unfair. Should they pay the same as everyone else? Hell fucking yea they should. We can talk about how corporations give us luxuries we wouldn’t otherwise have, but the first corporations were slave traders and Jeff Bezos hires Pinkerton detectives to follow his employees. That’s something I don’t forget when talking about people with such immense power.
James Appel

People in the business community don’t like paying tax, and many believe it’s not their responsibility to pay tax. So it’s a bit silly to ask them their opinion on whether or not they should pay tax, when that’s more of a question for an Economist. Also billionaires are a threat to democracy. Jeff Bezo had cities bidding for a sorting centre that he could afford to build at a cost, so basically he extorting cities for jobs if the legislature basically paid him through subsidies.

Lol Joe's comment about tax stifling business. Based on complete BULLSHIT. a company like Amazon only recently started paying SOME of his employees a living wage (which isn't even a good paying job) and his company (like trump) hardly pays SOME, if any in taxes. Yes taxing people heavily will stiffle. The problem is most corporations don't pay much in relative tax, get lots of freebies from all levels of government and then turn around and pay a pittance to their employees. So the notion that companies are creating a strong economy is now a memory of a generation ago. I've simply got to laugh when these jackasses go on about wealth redistribution like they are in the thick of it with every other joe bloe.
